Few courses in Australia carry a name as literally earned as this one. The Cut takes its identity from the Dawesville Channel — the man-made waterway cut through the peninsula in 1994 to flush the dying Peel-Harvey Estuary, and the defining geographic feature around which the course was built. Opened in 1996 and designed by Mike Wolveridge, it sits on that narrow finger of land between the channel and the Indian Ocean, meaning wind is not a variable here — it is the whole game.
Dawesville sits about 75 kilometres south of Perth, where the coastal heath and low scrub give way to sandy, links-style terrain. The layout plays to that setting honestly, rewarding ground game thinking and punishing anyone who insists on attacking from the air. The course has earned a strong reputation on Australia's best-course lists and draws a committed following from Perth golfers willing to make the drive down Mandurah's coast.
For visitors, The Cut offers something rarer than difficulty — genuine character. The land feels exposed and elemental, the routing makes sense of the site, and the estuary and ocean are never far from view.
