Few golf settings in Colorado announce themselves quite as dramatically as this one. La Veta sits at the foot of the Spanish Peaks — the twin volcanic summits the Pueblo people called Wahatoya, "breasts of the world" — and Grandote Peaks Golf Club plays directly beneath them. The peaks loom over nearly every hole, making this one of the more visually arresting rounds you can have in a state that sets a high bar for mountain scenery. La Veta itself is a small, unhurried arts community in Huerfano County, about 2 hours south of Pueblo along Highway 160.
