Secunda is a company town in the truest sense — built almost entirely around Sasol's massive coal-to-liquids complex, one of the largest synthetic fuel plants on earth. It sits in the eastern Highveld of Mpumalanga, a flat, open landscape of grassland and industrial infrastructure, roughly 130 kilometres southeast of Johannesburg. Golf here isn't a tourist proposition; it's part of the social fabric of a tight-knit community where the sport has long been a weekend anchor for engineers, plant workers, and their families.
Graceland Golf Course serves that community, offering a round in surroundings that are characteristically Highveld — wide skies, dry winters, and the kind of afternoon thunderstorms in summer that can end a back nine in a hurry. The elevation, sitting above 1,500 metres, means the ball carries noticeably further than at sea level, which flatters the mid-handicapper and rewards anyone who plays the region regularly enough to account for it.
As a club rooted in Secunda's working community rather than resort or private prestige, Graceland represents the everyday backbone of South African golf — accessible, sociable, and genuinely local in character.
