Ravenshoe sits at the southern edge of the Atherton Tablelands, roughly 800 metres above sea level in Far North Queensland — high enough that the air runs genuinely cool and the surrounding landscape is dominated by eucalypt woodland and remnant rainforest rather than the tropical heat most people associate with the region. It's an area built on timber, dairy, and sugarcane history, and the town remains one of the quietest and most unhurried corners of Queensland's north.
The Millstream Golf Club serves this close-knit community as a members' outfit, which tends to shape the entire character of a club at this scale: well-maintained by people who genuinely care about it, welcoming to guests when the opportunity arises, and carrying the particular pride of a regional club that punches above its weight. The course takes its name from the Millstream River system that runs through the area, and the terrain of the Tablelands — gently undulating, with wide rural views — likely makes its presence felt throughout the round.
For visiting golfers, Ravenshoe offers something genuinely different from the resort courses of Cairns and Port Douglas an hour to the north: elevation, quiet, and a taste of how the game is played by the people who actually live here.
