Few clubs in New England carry quite the layered identity of Dedham Country & Polo Club. Founded in the late 19th century, it is one of the oldest country clubs in the United States, predating golf's American boom and reflecting the era when landed gentry organized their leisure around horses, cricket, and eventually the game that would come to dominate club life. The polo grounds are no historical footnote — they remain part of the club's active character, giving the property a breadth and atmosphere that strictly golf-focused clubs rarely achieve.
The course itself was shaped by Donald Ross, whose fingerprints are all over Massachusetts golf, and it plays to a par of 70 — a number that signals tight, strategic design rather than length. Ross courses reward placement and imagination over power, and Dedham is no exception, demanding honest ball-striking and thoughtful course management across its tree-lined, rolling terrain.
Dedham sits about 10 miles southwest of Boston, in a town whose character is old-money New England through and through — quiet streets, historic architecture, and a sense that some institutions simply endure. Playing here is a genuine step into that continuity.
