Few heathland courses in England carry quite the historical weight of Liphook. Founded in 1922 and laid out by Arthur Croome across the sandy, pine-fringed heathland of the Hampshire-West Sussex border, it ranks among the finest inland tests in southern England — a genuine classic that has aged with remarkable grace. The course is widely respected among heathland connoisseurs and regularly appears in national rankings, yet it retains an unhurried, members' club atmosphere far removed from the tournament circuit.
The terrain here is quintessential Surrey-Hampshire heath: heather in purple bloom, silver birch and Scots pine framing tight fairways, and the kind of firm, fast-running turf that rewards ground game as much as aerial precision. Liphook sits within the broader golfing corridor that includes Hindhead and West Sussex, a stretch of English countryside that happens to produce exceptional golf.
