Few venues in American resort golf carry the dual weight of PGA TOUR pedigree and genuine Texas Hill Country drama quite like this one. The Canyons Course at TPC San Antonio opened in 2010 as part of a two-course complex designed by Pete Dye and Greg Norman, built to serve as the centerpiece of the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort. From the moment it opened, it became the host of what is now the Valero Texas Open, returning a PGA TOUR event to San Antonio after a long absence and giving the city a genuine marquee stage. The Dye-Norman collaboration produced a layout that leans into the rugged character of the Edwards Plateau — rocky terrain, cedar and live oak, dramatic elevation changes, and the kind of forced carries over broken ground that Dye has made his signature.
Playing the Canyons means contending with the same conditions TOUR professionals face: firm, fast Bermudagrass, wind that shifts across open canyon ridges, and approach angles that punish anything less than precise shot-shaping.
San Antonio itself is one of Texas's most compelling cities — deep in history, warm in climate, and serious about its golf. The Hill Country setting puts real teeth on the course, and the resort infrastructure means the experience extends well beyond the round itself.
