Sun City South Golf Course sits at the heart of one of America's most famous planned retirement communities, the original Del Webb Sun City development that opened northwest of Phoenix in 1960 and essentially invented the concept of the active adult community. Golf was central to Del Webb's vision from day one — the courses weren't amenities so much as the whole point, woven into the neighborhood fabric so residents could walk or cart to the first tee from their front doors.
The course plays through the mature, tree-lined streets and fairways that define classic Sun City, a landscape shaped more by decades of careful maintenance than by dramatic desert topography. Tall palms, eucalyptus, and lush turf create a green oasis that feels distinctly different from the rugged Sonoran Desert just beyond the community's edges — a deliberate contrast to the surrounding landscape.
As a residents-focused layout in this storied community, the course caters to everyday play and walkability rather than championship ambition. It's a place where regulars know every bounce and break, and where the rhythm of a round reflects the unhurried, social spirit Sun City was built around.
