Rarity Bay Golf & Country Club occupies a striking stretch of land along Tellico Lake in Monroe County, a corner of East Tennessee where the Great Smoky Mountains frame the horizon and the Tennessee Valley Authority's vast reservoir system defines the landscape. The course winds through a gated residential community developed by Rarity Communities, the ambitious — and ultimately troubled — luxury real estate enterprise whose projects dotted the Tennessee highlands during the early 2000s. That backstory gives the property an interesting character: a club built to anchor high-end lakeside living, now serving a membership that has largely made it their own.
The terrain does most of the heavy lifting here. Elevation changes, mature hardwoods, and frequent water views create genuine visual drama, and the lakefront setting means conditions shift noticeably with the seasons — crisp and colorful in autumn, humid and demanding through a Tennessee summer.
As a private country club in a small Appalachian foothills town, Rarity Bay offers the feel of a destination course without the resort crowds. It rewards members who learn its contours and punishes those who treat it casually.
