Few golf destinations in California carry the austere drama of Borrego Springs. Sitting deep in the Anza-Borrego Desert — the largest state park in the contiguous U.S. — this remote Coachella Valley community bakes under some of the most relentless sun in North America, yet rewards visitors with a stark, otherworldly beauty: ocotillo, desert willows, sweeping alluvial fans, and mountain ridgelines that turn amber at dusk. Getting here is part of the experience; the drive down from the San Diego mountains or in from the east is a commitment, and that isolation is exactly the point.
Rams Hill is the golf anchor of this desert town, a full-length layout that plays through the open valley floor with the Santa Rosa Mountains as a near-constant backdrop. The desert setting means firm, fast conditions, wide-open sight lines, and the kind of silence on the course that's increasingly rare in modern resort golf.
The wider Borrego Springs area has seen renewed investment in recent years, and Rams Hill — with its dramatic terrain and sky that seems twice the size of anywhere else — remains the clearest reason a golfer would make the pilgrimage out here.
