Few Melbourne sandbelt clubs carry quite the mystique of Woodlands. Established in the early 1920s and occupying a stretch of classic sandbelt terrain in the city's southeastern suburbs, it belongs to that storied corridor of courses — alongside Kingston Heath, Royal Melbourne, and Metropolitan — that have made Melbourne internationally synonymous with golf excellence. The sandy, free-draining soil produces firm, fast turf, and the native tea-tree and banksias that frame the fairways give the course a distinctly Australian character that no inland layout can replicate.
