Few resort courses in Europe carry the name recognition of the Victoria. Designed by Arnold Palmer and his design group and opened in 2004, it quickly established itself as Vilamoura's flagship layout — a bold, American-influenced design that contrasts with the more traditional parkland feel of the older courses sharing the same Algarve estate. Wide fairways give way to aggressive bunkering, significant water features, and large, undulating greens that reward precise iron play over brute distance.
The Victoria's reputation got a serious boost when it hosted the Portugal Masters on the European Tour for several consecutive years, attracting a strong international field and giving the course genuine tournament pedigree. Watching professionals struggle with the back 9 water holes reinforced what resort players already knew — length and bravado alone won't score well here.
Vilamoura itself is one of southern Europe's most polished resort destinations, set along the Algarve coast where the light is sharp, the umbrella pines cast long shadows, and the golf season effectively runs year-round thanks to Portugal's mild Atlantic climate.
