Ammaia Clube Golfe Marvâo

Few courses in Portugal situate themselves quite so dramatically as this one. Laid out in the foothills of the Serra de São Mamede, the natural park that rises above the Alentejo plain near the Spanish border, Ammaia occupies terrain shaped by millennia of Iberian history — the Roman city of Ammaia, from which the club takes its name, lies partly beneath and around the property, making the act of playing a round here feel genuinely archaeological in spirit. The medieval walled town of Marvão crowns a granite outcrop overhead, visible from much of the course, and that backdrop alone separates this place from virtually any other round you will play in southern Europe.

The Alto Alentejo is cork-oak country — vast, quiet, and unhurried — and the course reflects that landscape rather than fighting it. The terrain is rolling and naturalistic, with views across the border into Extremadura on clear days.
