Championsgate is one of central Florida's most deliberate golf destinations — a resort corridor carved out of the flat, scrubby terrain southwest of Orlando that draws a steady stream of visitors making the most of a theme-park trip or a warm-weather escape. The National course sits within the Omni Championsgate Resort, a sprawling property designed with volume in mind: wide fairways, generous accommodations for the average vacation golfer, and the kind of conditioning that keeps a high-traffic layout playable year-round in Florida's unforgiving heat and humidity.
The Championsgate complex is the work of Greg Norman, and the National is the more accessible of his 2 courses here — the International being the layout that leans harder into challenge. The National plays to its name in a broadly appealing way, offering enough variety and visual interest to satisfy visiting golfers without punishing those who left their A-game at home.
Central Florida golf tends to trade mountain drama for water, wind, and relentless sunshine, and the National fits that profile. It's a resort track in the truest sense — comfortable, well-maintained, and built for the kind of round that ends at a poolside bar.
