Few courses in Australia carry the kind of reputation Bonville does among traveling golfers. Designed by Ross Watson and opened in 1997, it has consistently ranked among the top public-access courses in the country — regularly appearing in Golf Australia's top 10 layouts open to everyday play. The course was built on a dramatically undulating site just inland from the Coffs Harbour coast, where native eucalypt forest dominates the landscape and creates a sense of total immersion that few resort-style venues can match. The routing tumbles through ridges and valleys, demanding precision off the tee and an understanding of elevation change.
The mid-North Coast of New South Wales offers a subtropical climate that keeps Bonville green and playable year-round, with the surrounding bushland unusually dense for a golf corridor. Coffs Harbour itself sits roughly halfway between Sydney and Brisbane, making the course a natural stop on the Pacific Highway trail.
Bonville plays as a genuine test of all-around ball-striking rather than a target layout. The site's natural contours do most of the heavy lifting — water hazards, steep runoffs, and tight angles from the trees reward local knowledge and punish overconfidence from any skill level.
