Few links courses in Scotland wear their age as openly as Winterfield. Laid out along the Firth of Forth on the outskirts of Dunbar, this compact seaside course has been a fixture of East Lothian golf for generations — a region that can legitimately claim to be among the most golf-rich stretches of ground on earth, home to Muirfield, North Berwick, and Gullane within a short drive along the coast.
With a par of 65, Winterfield is shorter and less demanding than its famous neighbors, but that's rather the point. This is a course where the golf is unpretentious and accessible, where the wind off the Firth has the final say regardless of yardage, and where the views across the water toward the Bass Rock remind you exactly where you are.
Dunbar itself is a historic royal burgh with a long association with the game — Dunbar Golf Club's championship links sits nearby. Winterfield offers a different proposition: a genuine links experience without the ceremony, ideal for a quick round in the long East Lothian evening light.
