Gogarburn sits on the western edge of Edinburgh, in the flat, open farmland that stretches toward the airport and the Forth valley. Newbridge is border territory — where the city gives way to West Lothian and the landscape loses its drama but gains a kind of windswept, working honesty. Golf here is exposed, subject to the prevailing westerlies that funnel in off the Forth, and the conditions can change the character of a round considerably from one day to the next.
