Ängsö Golfklubb sits on the Ängsö peninsula in Lake Mälaren, roughly 25 kilometers southeast of Västerås — one of the more dramatically situated courses in central Sweden. The club occupies land that is part of the Ängsö National Park area, Sweden's oldest national park, giving the surroundings a protected, almost primeval quality: ancient deciduous forest, meadows managed for centuries as traditional farmland, and the constant presence of open water. Getting there requires a short ferry crossing, which immediately sets it apart from virtually every other club in Västmanland.
That sense of remoteness shapes how the course plays and feels. Narrow tree-lined corridors, firm links-adjacent turf in summer, and holes that emerge suddenly at water's edge reward local knowledge and thoughtful course management over raw power. The layout uses the natural contours of the island without overbuilding them.
Västerås has a solid regional golf scene anchored by several established clubs, but Ängsö carries a character none of the others can replicate. The ferry ride alone makes a round here feel like a genuine excursion rather than simply a game of golf.
