Few cities in Africa take their golf as seriously as Johannesburg, and Parkview Golf Club sits comfortably among the oldest and most cherished of its clubs. Founded in the early 20th century in the leafy northern suburb that shares its name, Parkview occupies ground that feels genuinely historic — a mature, tree-lined layout where the Highveld's characteristic light and thin air (the course sits at roughly 1,700 metres above sea level) give every iron shot a little extra carry and every round a particular atmosphere you won't find at sea level.
The club has long been a fixture in Johannesburg's social and sporting fabric, drawing members who value tradition and a proper test of golf over novelty. The course winds through established residential streets and mature woodland, demanding accuracy off the tee far more than raw power — tree-lined corridors keep errant hitters honest, and the bentgrass greens reward those who approach from the correct angles.
Parkview is a members' club in the truest sense: unhurried, community-driven, and proud of its roots. For visitors, it offers a window into the authentic culture of Johannesburg golf — not the resort spectacle of Sun City or the grandeur of Houghton, but the quieter, more personal pleasure of a course that has belonged to its neighbourhood for generations.
