Few settings in American golf carry as much social and architectural history as Biltmore Golf Course, anchored to the legendary Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables. The course dates to 1925, designed by Donald Ross as a centerpiece of George Merrick's ambitious planned city — one of the defining projects of Florida's great land boom era. Playing here means stepping into a chapter of the country's early resort and real estate history, on ground that has hosted celebrities, presidents, and the kind of Roaring Twenties glamour that still feels embedded in the place.
Ross's design reflects his characteristic restraint: understated bunkering, subtle greens, and a layout that rewards precision over power. Mature trees line many fairways, and the Coral Gables streetscape surrounds the property, giving the round a distinctly urban-elegant feel rather than the wild or coastal drama found elsewhere in South Florida.
The climate means golf is played here year-round, though winter and spring offer relief from the region's intense summer humidity. For visitors staying at the hotel, a round at Biltmore is as much a cultural experience as a golf one.
