Lago Vista Golf Course sits in the Texas Hill Country northwest of Austin, in the small lakeside community that shares its name — a town perched along the northern shore of Lake Travis. The Hill Country is distinctive golfing terrain: cedar and live oak, limestone outcroppings, dramatic elevation changes, and a rugged openness that sets it apart from the flat Bermuda-grass layouts that dominate much of Texas. Lake Travis itself is one of the Highland Lakes chain formed by the Lower Colorado River Authority dams, and views of that water are part of the area's character.
The Hill Country northwest corridor has grown considerably as Austin has expanded outward, and Lago Vista reflects that community-anchored golf culture — the kind of course where local members and weekend regulars know every bounce and break, and where the landscape does much of the architectural work that designers elsewhere have to manufacture.
