Brays Island Plantation is a private sporting community set deep in the South Carolina Lowcountry, between Beaufort and the ACE Basin — one of the largest undeveloped estuarine preserves on the East Coast. The course exists within a working plantation of several thousand acres, where the golf is only one part of a broader lifestyle built around hunting, fishing, and riding. That context shapes the experience entirely: this is not a resort track or a competitive showcase, but a course designed to belong to its land rather than impose upon it.
The Lowcountry terrain means playing through live oaks draped in Spanish moss, across marshland edges, and alongside tidal waterways that define the coastal Carolina landscape. Wildlife sightings during a round are routine, and the pace and atmosphere reflect a membership that values the natural surroundings as much as the golf itself.
Sheldon sits in Beaufort County, a region with deep colonial and Civil War history and a distinctly unhurried character. The nearest major golf destination is Hilton Head Island, roughly 30 miles south, but Brays Island operates in deliberate contrast to that world — quieter, more remote, and entirely self-contained.
