Golf & Country Club Leipzig

Few golf clubs in eastern Germany carry the weight of history that Leipzig's does. Founded in 1992 in the immediate wake of reunification, Golf & Country Club Leipzig was among the first serious private clubs to take root in the former GDR, and it quickly established itself as one of the flagship layouts in Saxony. The course was designed by Kurt Roßknecht, a respected German architect, and the routing makes confident use of the gently rolling Machern landscape — open meadows giving way to tree-lined corridors, with water hazards threading through several key holes to keep the card honest at both ends of the bag.

Machern itself sits roughly 20 kilometers east of Leipzig, a city with a rich cultural and intellectual identity — Bach, Mendelssohn, the Gewandhaus — and a regional golf scene that punches above its weight. The Saxony countryside here is quietly attractive: broad skies, mixed deciduous woodland, and an unhurried pace that suits a long afternoon round.
