Howard Swan designed Eagle Creek Golf Club, which opened in 2003 as the centerpiece of a master-planned residential community in the Lake Nona corridor of southeast Orlando. Swan shaped the layout around the wetlands and water features that define this part of Central Florida, and the result is a course where water comes into play on a significant number of holes — demanding both accuracy off the tee and careful course management throughout. The par-73 configuration is unusual at the championship level and reflects genuine strategic thinking rather than a rounding error, with the extra par 5 giving longer hitters a chance to separate themselves on the card.
Eagle Creek sits in one of Orlando's fastest-growing corridors, sharing a zip code with Lake Nona's Medical City and some of the area's most ambitious development. The surrounding landscape is quintessentially Florida — flat, lush, and humid — with the kind of afternoon thunderstorms in summer that keep rounds honest and tee times early.
The club operates as a semi-private facility, serving both community residents and outside play, which gives it a welcoming character without the exclusivity of the private clubs that anchor nearby Lake Nona. For visitors to the Orlando area looking beyond the resort-circuit options, it represents a genuine local alternative with a course worth the detour.
