Tiger Woods designed Bluejack National as his first solo U.S. course open to the public — a statement project that announced him as a serious architect, not just a celebrity lending his name. Opened in 2016 in the Piney Woods of Montgomery County northwest of Houston, the course was built on land that genuinely suits golf: rolling terrain, towering loblolly pines, and sandy soil that drains quickly and rewards creative shot-making. The design drew immediate attention, landing near the top of "best new course" lists and earning a reputation as one of the strongest debut efforts by any architect in recent memory.
The layout plays as a private club with a resort component, and that exclusivity shapes the entire experience — impeccable conditions, unhurried rounds, and a level of presentation that matches the ambitions of its designer. The routing moves through corridors of pine with enough width to invite aggressive play while still punishing genuine mistakes.
Montgomery sits about an hour north of downtown Houston, firmly in Texas lake country. The surrounding area is best known for Lake Conroe and the kind of quiet, wooded retreat that the Houston metro crowd seeks on weekends — and Bluejack fits that identity precisely, offering serious golf in a setting that feels removed from the city without actually being far from it.
