Rathbane Golf Club sits on the south side of Limerick city, one of the few municipally run courses in Ireland's midwest and long a starting point for generations of Limerick golfers who couldn't afford private club membership. That accessibility is part of its identity — this is a course that belongs to the city in the most literal sense, and its regulars tend to be fiercely loyal to it.
Limerick itself is a rugby city first and foremost, but golf runs deep here, with a cluster of clubs in the surrounding countryside that ranges from the parkland layouts along the Shannon to the challenges out toward County Clare. Rathbane occupies the more workaday end of that spectrum — a compact, walkable parkland track where the emphasis is on getting out and playing rather than ceremony or theatre.
At par 70, it's a layout that rewards accuracy and course management over raw power, the kind of track where locals know every bounce and newcomers tend to take a hole or 2 to find their footing.
