Malung sits in the forested heartland of Dalarna, the county Swedes often call the soul of their country — a region of dense pine and birch woodland, clear lakes, and the kind of unhurried rural character that feels genuinely apart from modern life. The golf club here reflects that setting: a course carved into the boreal landscape where the trees press close and the air carries the resin-sharp smell of Scandinavian forest.
Dalarna is not Sweden's most fashionable golf destination — that distinction belongs to courses along the coasts or near the major cities — but it has a loyal regional scene, and clubs like Malung serve as genuine community anchors for the small towns scattered across this interior landscape. The short summers are compensated by long playing days, with midsummer light that lets rounds stretch well into the evening hours that would be dark almost anywhere else in the world.
Malung itself is a small timber-industry town on the Västerdalälven river, and the course almost certainly shares that wooded, river-valley character — tree-lined fairways that reward accuracy over power, and a pace of play shaped more by local regulars than by tournament ambition.
