Winkel is a small agricultural village in the Noord-Holland province, sitting in the flat polder landscape northwest of Alkmaar and not far from the North Sea coast. This is quintessentially Dutch terrain — wide open skies, drainage ditches cutting across reclaimed land, and a prevailing wind off the water that can reshape any round in a hurry. Golf in this part of the Netherlands tends to be unpretentious and community-rooted, and Regthuys fits that mold.
Regthuys Golf takes its name from a historic farmstead on the property, and the layout makes use of the classic polder setting — low, open fairways bordered by water hazards and reeds, with few natural elevation changes but plenty of wind exposure to keep scoring honest. That wind is the great equalizer here: a calm morning round and a breezy afternoon feel like entirely different courses.
For visiting golfers, Regthuys offers a genuine slice of Dutch golf culture away from the busier circuits around Amsterdam or Haarlem — straightforward, accessible, and firmly rooted in its local landscape.
