Arusha City Golf Club sits in one of East Africa's most dramatically situated cities, with Mount Meru — Tanzania's second-highest peak — rising to the immediate west and the Kilimanjaro massif visible on clear days to the east. The club serves as the social and sporting hub of Arusha's golfing community, a city that functions as the safari gateway of the continent, drawing visitors en route to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Kilimanjaro National Park. That convergence of landscapes gives the course a backdrop few layouts anywhere in the world can match.
The course itself is a mature, members-oriented club in the British colonial tradition, the kind of place where the local handicap committee knows everyone by name and weekend competitions carry genuine social weight. Fairways play through indigenous and introduced trees that have grown to impressive scale over the decades, offering shade and strategic definition in equal measure.
Arusha's highland elevation — sitting above 1,400 meters — means the air is thinner and the ball travels noticeably farther than at sea level, a pleasant surprise for visiting golfers. The climate is mild and relatively dry for much of the year, making conditions generally favorable, though the long rains between March and May can soften the turf considerably.
