Toongabbie Golf Course sits in a small rural township in Gippsland, the sprawling region of Victoria's east that stretches from the Latrobe Valley out toward the coast. This is dairy and farming country — flat to gently undulating, with big skies and a quiet, unhurried pace that carries over directly onto the course. Gippsland has a modest but proud local golf culture, with a network of small country clubs that serve their communities as much as they serve the game.
As a rural Victorian country course, Toongabbie will reflect the character common to clubs of its kind in this part of the state: compact layouts shaped around the natural lie of the land, with turf conditions that vary with the seasons and a membership that prizes camaraderie alongside competition. These are clubs where the same faces have teed it up together for decades, and where a friendly game carries real social weight.
Toongabbie township itself sits roughly between Rosedale and Heyfield in the Latrobe Valley hinterland — an area more often associated with farming than tourism. Playing here is a genuinely local experience, far from resort polish, and all the more authentic for it.
