Klagenfurt am Wörthersee sits at the eastern end of the Wörthersee, Austria's warmest alpine lake, and the golf here reflects that setting: a landscape of crystalline water, mature forest, and the distant Karawanken mountain chain forming the border with Slovenia. The Championship Course at Golfclub Klagenfurt-Seltenheim is one of the most established clubs in Carinthia, operating in a region where golf arrived relatively early by Central European standards and where the summer season draws visitors from across Austria, Germany, and northern Italy.
Seltenheim plays through a mix of open parkland and tree-lined corridors, with water features coming into play on several holes — fitting for a course that sits within easy reach of the lake district that defines this corner of the Alps. The layout rewards course management over raw power, and the mountain backdrop gives even routine rounds a visual generosity that flat inland tracks rarely offer.
Carinthia itself is an underrated golf destination. The region hosts a cluster of serious courses within a short drive of Klagenfurt, making it genuinely viable as a golf-focused base rather than a single-stop visit.
