Few courses in Michigan's Lower Peninsula carry the quiet credibility that Mascoutin Golf Club has built over the decades among serious regional golfers. The club sits in Berlin Township, just outside the small agricultural community of Marne in Ottawa County — a stretch of west Michigan where the land flattens and opens into the kind of rolling, well-drained glacial terrain that has always been hospitable to golf. The area sits roughly halfway between Grand Rapids and the Lake Michigan shoreline, giving it a climate that brings reliable summer conditions and a season that, while shorter than golfers would prefer, produces genuinely pleasant playing weather from spring through fall.
Mascoutin has long been regarded as one of the stronger public-access offerings in the Grand Rapids corridor — a region that punches above its weight for golf, given the density of well-kept courses within an hour's drive of the city.
As a par 72 layout, the course presents a full test across its 18 holes, rewarding ball-strikers who can manage the varied terrain and demanding approach shots that characterize the better west Michigan tracks.
