Belterra Golf Club sits on the grounds of Belterra Casino Resort along the Ohio River in Florence, Indiana — a stretch of southeastern Indiana where the river bends dramatically and the terrain rolls through wooded bluffs that feel more Appalachian than Midwestern. The course was designed by Michael Hurdzan and opened in 2000 alongside the resort, and it plays through some genuinely dramatic elevation change for this part of the country, with tree-lined fairways and views across the river valley that give it a character well beyond a typical casino layout.
Hurdzan, known for thoughtful designs that work with natural topography rather than against it, gave Belterra a routing that rewards course management. The par-71 configuration plays firm and measured rather than just long, and the back nine in particular uses the bluff terrain to create holes where the landscape is very much part of the challenge.
For resort guests, it functions as a full destination experience — combining the casino, hotel, and a course that holds its own on its own terms. Visitors coming purely for golf tend to leave pleasantly surprised by how seriously the design was taken.
