Palm Desert sits at the heart of the Coachella Valley, where the Santa Rosa Mountains rise sharply to the south and the desert floor stretches flat and sun-baked in every direction. The valley's golf culture is among the densest in the country — hundreds of courses compete for attention here — and the ones that endure tend to do so because they fit their community rather than trying to impress passing visitors.
Woodhaven Country Club has the feel of a course built for its members first. A par 70 layout signals a design that leans on precision and variety rather than raw length — expect shorter par 4s that reward placement, and a routing that probably makes clever use of a compact footprint. That kind of course often plays more interestingly than its yardage suggests, penalizing wandering tee shots and putting a premium on iron play.
The desert setting means firm, fast conditions for much of the year, reliable sunshine, and the particular pleasure of playing against a backdrop of mountain ridges that make even an ordinary round feel like it belongs somewhere worth being.
