Few heathland courses in the English Midlands carry the quiet authority of Coxmoor. Founded in 1913 and designed with the natural contours of Nottinghamshire's high sandstone ridge firmly in mind, the course sits above Sutton-in-Ashfield at an elevation that delivers panoramic views across the county — and exposed lies when the wind decides to make itself felt. The heather, gorse, and silver birch that frame almost every hole aren't decorative; they're genuine trouble, and they give Coxmoor its distinctive moorland personality.
The layout rewards straight driving and thoughtful course management more than raw distance, and its par 73 reflects several long, demanding two-shotters that play every yard when the prevailing westerly is up.
