Branson's golf scene has always traded on the Ozarks' dramatic topography, and Top of the Rock — part of Bass Pro founder Johnny Morris's sprawling Big Cedar Lodge resort complex — delivers that terrain in full. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the course is unlike anything else in the region: a par-3 layout that plays across blufftops and ravines above Table Rock Lake, with elevation changes and water views that make the yardage almost beside the point. It earned recognition as one of the finest short courses in the country not long after opening, and it routinely appears on national rankings for par-3 and resort golf.
The surrounding property deepens the experience considerably. The ancient Ozarks landscape — limestone bluffs, cedar glades, clear Ozark water — shapes every hole, and the resort's commitment to conservation and naturalistic design gives the course a character that feels earned rather than manufactured.
For golfers who assume par-3 courses are warm-up acts, Top of the Rock is a genuine correction. Each hole demands real decision-making, and the scenery doesn't let you rush through the round.
