Few Vermont golf clubs can claim a history as long as Montague's. Founded in 1895, it stands among the oldest courses in the state, a product of the era when New Englanders were first discovering the game and carving layouts from whatever farmland and hillside terrain lay at hand. That legacy gives the club a quiet authenticity that newer facilities rarely manufacture.
Randolph sits in the geographic heart of Vermont, in the White River valley where the Green Mountains fold into a landscape of working farms, dense hardwood forest, and rolling pastureland. Montague reflects that setting honestly — expect elevation changes, views across the surrounding hills, and the kind of honest, unpretentious challenge that asks you to think rather than simply overpower the course. A par 70 layout rewards placement and course management over raw distance.
This is a private members' club that has served its central Vermont community for well over a century, and it carries the relaxed, unhurried atmosphere those long roots tend to produce — a place where the golf still feels like the point.
