Few courses in the Greater Toronto Area carry the reputation Lionhead does. Opened in 1991 and designed by Thomas McBroom, the Legends Course — the original and more celebrated of Lionhead's 2 layouts — quickly established itself as one of Ontario's marquee public-access tests. McBroom built it with a bold, stadium-style character: generous mounding, dramatic bunkering, and a scale that feels genuinely tournament-ready. It has hosted a string of Canadian Tour events and remains a bucket-list round for serious golfers in the region.
The course sits in Brampton, at the western edge of the GTA, where the suburban sprawl gives way to surprisingly open terrain. McBroom used the rolling land well, routing holes through corridors of mature trees and across water features that come into play at critical moments. The design rewards strategic thinking — the par-71 layout plays longer and harder than a cursory glance at the card suggests.
Lionhead occupies a particular place in the Ontario golf conversation: it's one of the few daily-fee venues in the province that genuinely competes with the better private clubs, both in conditioning standards and in the quality of the challenge it presents.
