Eagles Mere Country Club occupies one of the most quietly distinguished addresses in Pennsylvania golf — a mountaintop resort village in Sullivan County that reached its social peak in the Gilded Age and has maintained an almost deliberate resistance to the modern world ever since. The village itself, perched above 2,000 feet in the Endless Mountains, drew wealthy Philadelphia and New York families who built Victorian "cottages" around a pristine glacial lake, and the country club has always been the sporting heart of that summer community.
The course plays through the kind of cool, wooded terrain that defines this corner of north-central Pennsylvania — hardwood forest, natural elevation change, and mountain air that makes late-summer rounds feel genuinely refreshing. At par 71, the layout leans slightly away from symmetry, suggesting a routing shaped more by the land than by a drawing board.
This is a private members' club, and its atmosphere reflects the village around it: unhurried, traditional, and rooted in a summer-colony culture that few American golf destinations can still honestly claim.
