Few private clubs in Iowa carry the history and prestige of Hyperion Field Club, which dates to 1919 and stands as one of the oldest and most respected members' clubs in the Des Moines metro area. The course was originally designed in the golden age of American golf architecture, and its tree-lined fairways and classic contours reflect a sensibility rooted in strategy and restraint rather than spectacle. Over the decades Hyperion has earned a loyal membership and a strong reputation within Iowa's competitive golf community.
Johnston sits just north of Des Moines, and the course occupies mature, rolling terrain typical of central Iowa's glaciated landscape — gentle but meaningful elevation changes, established hardwoods, and the kind of turf conditions that reward a well-run private operation. The Midwest seasons shape the game here: firm and fast in summer, brilliantly colored in fall.
As a private club, Hyperion offers the unhurried, member-first atmosphere that defines the best of American club golf — a place where the course itself, not amenities or spectacle, remains the main event.
