Ram Rock

Ram Rock is the most demanding of the 3 courses at Horseshoe Bay Resort, a sprawling Hill Country destination that has anchored golf in central Texas since the 1970s. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1981, it earned a reputation almost immediately as one of the toughest resort tracks in the state — a course that asks serious questions from the very first hole and rarely lets up.

The Hill Country terrain does most of the talking here. The landscape is defined by limestone outcroppings, native cedar and live oak, and the kind of dramatic elevation change that makes yardage almost irrelevant as a measure of difficulty. Ram Rock routinely tops Texas resort rankings, and its challenge is rooted less in length than in precision — wayward shots tend to find rock, ravine, or scrub with little mercy.

Horseshoe Bay sits on the shores of Lake LBJ, about 50 miles northwest of Austin, in a region where the summers run long and hot and the winters stay mild enough for year-round play.
