Few golf destinations in Central Europe can match the backdrop that greets you at Black Stork — the High Tatras rising sharply to the southwest, their snow-capped peaks visible from virtually every hole on the course. Veľká Lomnica sits in the foothills of Slovakia's most dramatic mountain range, a region better known internationally for skiing and alpine hiking than for golf, which gives this resort a genuinely exploratory quality for visiting players.
The course itself plays through the open, rolling terrain of the Poprad Basin, where the cool sub-alpine climate keeps the turf firm and the air unusually clear well into the season. The name references the black stork, a rare and protected bird that inhabits the forested wetlands of this part of eastern Slovakia — an indicator of how relatively undisturbed the natural environment remains here.
For visiting golfers, Black Stork functions as a full resort experience, making it the natural hub for anyone pairing a round with the broader Tatra tourism circuit. The nearby town of Poprad provides easy access, and the Tatras themselves form a playing companion unlike anything most golfers elsewhere in Europe will have encountered.
