Clearview Golf Club

Few courses in American golf carry the historical weight of Clearview Golf Club. Founded in 1946 by Bill Powell — the only African American to design, build, own, and operate a golf course in the United States — Clearview stands as a landmark of perseverance in the sport. Powell, a World War II veteran denied access to whites-only courses after returning home, responded by building his own. The club has been recognized by the USGA and Golf Digest, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places, cementing its status as one of golf's most meaningful addresses. His daughter Renee Powell, herself a former LPGA Tour professional, continues to steward the course today.

Set in Canton, Ohio — home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the industrial heart of northeastern Ohio — the course occupies a landscape of gentle glacial terrain, open fairways, and mature hardwoods typical of the region.
