Virginia Water sits in the affluent Surrey stockbroker belt, roughly 25 miles southwest of London, where the heathland and woodland of the old Windsor Great Park estates give way to some of England's most coveted real estate — and some quietly serious golf. The Edinburgh course operates in this tradition, a private members' layout in a corner of the Home Counties where the golf club is still very much a social institution and the standard of course maintenance tends to reflect the expectations of a well-heeled membership.
Heathland golf in Surrey has a distinguished lineage — Wentworth, Sunningdale, and Swinley Forest are all within a short drive — and while the Edinburgh doesn't carry their celebrity, it exists within that same landscape of sandy soil, pine, silver birch, and heather that makes this stretch of England so naturally suited to the game. That terrain rewards a patient, thinking style of play, where placement off the tee matters more than raw distance.
For visiting golfers, the area offers a genuine sense of English golf culture at its most traditional: understated, well-ordered, and quietly proud of it.
