Few golf experiences in the world come with a backdrop quite like this one. Kilimanjaro Golf Course sits in the Arusha region of northern Tanzania, where the sweeping landscapes of East Africa unfold around you and, on a clear day, the snow-capped summit of Mount Kilimanjaro — Africa's highest peak — dominates the horizon. Arusha itself is a gateway city to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and the northern safari circuit, meaning golfers here are often as likely to have binoculars in their bags as rangefinders.
The course plays through terrain shaped by volcanic soils and equatorial highland climate, with lush vegetation that sets it apart from the sun-baked layouts common across much of the continent. At roughly 1,400 meters above sea level, the altitude affects ball flight in ways that reward local knowledge, and the air carries a freshness that makes even a difficult round feel like a privilege.
This is golf as a genuine travel experience rather than a routine round. Visitors typically arrive mid-safari, combining a day on the course with game drives and cultural excursions into Maasai country — a combination you won't find anywhere else in the world.
