Cimarron, Kansas sits in the heart of the Arkansas River valley, deep in the southwest corner of the state where the High Plains stretch toward the horizon in every direction. This is Dust Bowl country — the land that Steinbeck wrote about — and golf courses out here tend to reflect the honest, unpretentious character of the region. Flat terrain, persistent wind, and wide open skies define the playing experience in ways no scorecard can capture.
A municipal or community course serving a small western Kansas town, Cimarron Golf Club is the kind of layout where local knowledge matters enormously. Prairie wind can turn a straightforward par 4 into a genuine test, and the light is unlike anything you'll find in more populated corners of the country — the late afternoon sun across open farmland is something else entirely.
Southwest Kansas has a quiet, serious golf culture built on regular players who know how to manage conditions rather than fight them. If you're passing through on US-50 or exploring the Santa Fe Trail corridor, this is a worthy stop.
