Few venues in American tournament golf carry the specific weight of Southwind. This is the home of what is now the FedEx St. Jude Championship, a PGA Tour event that became one of the 3 FedEx Cup Playoff stops — meaning the world's best players descend on this Memphis layout every August with serious money and serious points on the line. The course has hosted professional golf for decades, and its reputation was cemented further when it was elevated to Playoff status, putting it in the same late-season conversation as East Lake.
The Ron Prichard design plays as a par 70, which tells you something about its character — this is not a course that flatters. Tight Bermuda fairways, demanding approach angles, and water that comes into play on multiple holes reward precision far more than power. Southwind earns its low par honestly.
Memphis itself is a city with deep sports roots and genuine civic pride, and the tournament draws accordingly. Playing TPC Southwind means walking the same ground where PGA Tour history gets made each summer.
