Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed this seaside layout on Puerto Rico's northeastern coast, where the Atlantic and the El Yunque rainforest create one of the more dramatic backdrops in Caribbean golf. Opened in 2008 as part of the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort, the course winds through a restored wildlife refuge along the Espíritu Santo River estuary, meaning mangroves, lagoons, and open ocean views share the frame with nearly every hole. It has earned consistent recognition among the best resort courses in the Caribbean and Latin America.
The routing takes full advantage of its coastal real estate, with several holes playing directly alongside the water and the tradewinds a constant strategic factor — club selection here is rarely straightforward. The mountain backdrop of El Yunque, the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System, gives the course a visual grandeur that few resort layouts anywhere can match.
Rio Grande sits about 25 miles east of San Juan, making Bahia Beach an accessible escape from the capital without sacrificing the sense of arriving somewhere genuinely remote and ecologically special.
