Valle de Bravo sits about 2 hours west of Mexico City in the mountains of Estado de México, at roughly 1,800 meters elevation. The town itself is one of Mexico's most celebrated weekend escapes — a colonial lakeside village ringed by pine forests and steep volcanic terrain, where the weekenders who sail on Lake Avándaro share the roads with hang gliders launching off the surrounding ridges. Golf here is nothing like the desert resort layouts most visitors associate with Mexican golf.
Avándaro occupies that same pine-and-lake landscape, and the setting does most of the heavy lifting in terms of atmosphere. The elevation means the air is thinner, the ball flies farther than expected, and afternoon storms roll in fast from the mountains — course management here involves watching the sky as much as reading the greens. The cooler, wetter climate keeps the terrain genuinely green in a way that feels more Highland than tropical.

Valle de Bravo draws affluent Mexico City families, and the club reflects that community — a place where the golf is part of a broader weekend ritual involving the lake, the market, and the mountains rather than a standalone destination.
