Few golf names carry more weight than St. Andrews, and this Overland Park layout wears it with the full awareness that comparisons are inevitable — and cheerfully beside the point. This is Kansas golf: a public course serving one of the Kansas City metro's most populous suburbs, built for the everyday player who wants a decent round after work, not a pilgrimage.
Overland Park sits in Johnson County, the prosperous heart of the Kansas City suburbs, where flat to gently rolling terrain defines the landscape. Summers are hot and humid, winters can bite, and the turf reflects the transitional climate zone — a place where bentgrass greens and bermuda fairways are both plausible depending on the era of construction. The course's par-71 configuration suggests at least a couple of par-5s have been swapped for longer par-3s somewhere in the routing, giving the layout a slightly different rhythm than a conventional par-72 design.
Without a famous architect or tournament history attached, St. Andrews Overland Park earns its place the honest way: as accessible, community-rooted golf in a metro area that takes its public courses seriously.
